The International Pole & Line Foundation (IPNLF) has announced that John Burton, Founder of World Wise Foods Ltd, has been appointed the new Chairman of the Foundation.

He takes over the role from Dr Hussain Rasheed Hassan, Maldivian Minister of State for Fisheries and Agriculture, who remains one of the IPNLF’s Trustees.

Mr Burton has been involved in the food industry all his working life and has been instrumental in developing the UK’s demand for pole-and-line tuna. During an illustrious career, he has worked on several important sustainability initiatives and has built excellent relationships with NGOs in the fisheries world.

He will be supported in his position as Chairman by Dr Shiham Adam and Andrew Bassford, both Founding Members of the IPNLF, who have taken up executive roles. In addition, Ali Wibisono becomes the Foundation’s first Indonesian Trustee and Amin Salka joins as the new Indonesian Coordinator.

On 8 July 2013, Emily Howgate will also join as Programme Director and Rosie Magudia will join as Communications Director. Both positions are newly-created by the IPNLF.
