Vista, California-based Aquasend has engineered an outdoor buoy for aqua-farming that senses water quality from dissolved oxygen levels and temperature (DOT) and records real-time data which streams to a smart phone or computer.
Called “Aquasend Beacon”, the solution is solar-powered, low maintenance and is designed for all weather and intense farming environments.
The buoy includes an optical oxygen sensor with a bristled wiper inside the sensor chamber that consistently sweeps over the optical oxygen sensor to ensure the cleanliness of the sensor, accuracy of the data and to reduce fouling of the sensor.
Buoys are also programmed to provide alerts of any unsafe levels and can communicate with other buoys in a mesh-networked arrangement across long distances.
A fouling resistance paint has been applied to the outside of the buoys to deter the growth of unwanted particles.
