Food packaging development company Sirane has launched a cost-effective new ‘patch’ which solves the problem of seafood smelling ‘off’ when the pack is opened – which could result in significant cost savings for retailers.

The Dri-Fresh® Fresh-Hold™ labels are a small patch that attract and absorb the organic vapours which produce the unpleasant odours. The company says that the patch can be almost hidden if need be.

Simon Balderson, Sirane MD, said: “Perfectly good fish can often be rejected by consumers as a result of strong odours – even though the food is actually perfectly okay.

“It is simply the odour build-up. This unique product traps all the odours from within the pack, meaning that when they customer opens it up it smells as fresh as when packed.”

The odour-absorbing patch can easily be integrated with any type of and can be customised to meet specific requirements. It is available in a number of formats, including reel format for easy application.
