The latest Perkins Sabre marine diesel engines have confirmed the range’s status for achieving the highest environmental standards.

The new turbocharged, charge air cooled Perkins Sabre M128C and the recently introduced naturally aspirated M92B, both comply with CCNR (Central Commission for Navigation on the Rhine) Stage Two requirements. According to Perkins Sabre, this means that they are the only marine propulsion engines in the world to comply with all known European marine environmental legislation until 2011. They are fully compliant with the European Stage II gaseous and particulate pollutant emissions regulations and the US Environmental Protection Agency's Tier Two regulations.
Both engines also offer boatbuilders, owners and operators the benefit of premium-build specifications that are a characteristic of the entire commercial engine line-up, ensuring their suitability for newbuilds and repowering. Today they can be found in a broad selection of workboats and fishing craft, patrol boats and passenger ferries.
The four-cylinder, 4.4-litre M92B is the smallest engine in the current Perkins Sabre leisure engine range. It develops its maximum 86hp output at a very comfortable and low stressed 2,400rpm. This is followed by the new four-cylinder, 4.4-litre 128hp M128C, which delivers its maximum power at an extremely low stressed 2,200rpm – one of the lowest rated speeds in the current Perkins Sabre commercial engine offering. The current range is completed by three six-cylinder, six-litre turbocharged and intercooled engines: the 130hp M130C; the 190hp M185C; and the 215hp M215C, which produce their maximum power outputs at 2,600rpm, 2,100rpm and 2,500rpm respectively.
Reliability, durability and superior economic performance continue to be evident throughout the range, and contribute significantly to the appeal of these low-stressed marine diesel engines. The virtual absence of smoke and noise, along with what is described as an extraordinary cold starting ability, are often given as being among the engines' competitive-edge features. Across the board, the engines offer extended service and oil change intervals, and single side servicing. The M92B, for example, has service intervals of up to 500 hours, plus a standard two-year warranty with three years on major components.
