The document was accepted at the agency’s 33rd meeting held on 22 October in Vigo in Spain. The budget for 2020 is €17.6m subject to adoption by the EU budgetary authority.

The agency aims to support close cooperation between EU member states through the monitoring, control and surveillance measures of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) which are critical to achieving a compliant, efficient and consistent implementation of the policy.

‘’EFCA’s builds on its technical and operational expertise, to enhance a culture of compliance and collaboration and for achieving a level playing field in the EU contributing to ocean governance and sustainability in the most cost-efficient way," said Pascal Savouret, EFCA executive director.

EFCA’s work will revolve around the strategic areas of operational coordination, risk assessment and data analysis, compliance with international provisions capacity building and support to Coast Guard functions.

This cooperation strengthens EFCA capacity for helping the EU in the aspects of the CFP that encompass implementation of the illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing regulation and cooperation with third parties as embodied by the cooperation programme, PESCAO.
