Norwegian gear manufacturers Dyrkorn AS and Fosnavåg Fiskevegn AS have merged to form a stronger organisation dedicated to the supply of longline fleets world-wide.
The merger took effect on January 1st 2002, and the new enlarged company is continuing under the Dyrkorn name.
'Combining these two well known companies will allow us to increase efficiency, boost production and gives us the resources required to stay at the forefront of longline development,' said Kurt Pettersen, managing director.
Dyrkorn manufactures a full range of 7mm, 8mm, 9mm and 11.5mm swivelled longlines, and supplies all the ancillary gear needed onboard a modern autoliner.
The company has a major share of the Norwegian home market and supplies boats
as far afield as Alaska, Argentina, Russia and New Zealand. It also sells workwear, gillnets and rope.
Production
Production and administration facilities are being re-organised in order to boost efficiency. The head office is located on the quayside in Ã…lesund, where longline assembly will take place and main inventories will be held. Sales, marketing and export operations will also be based here, headed by Svein Erik Bakke.
Rope production is being concentrated in Fosnavåg under manager Terje Lindal. 'Having all our rope machines in one dedicated production unit will improve efficiency and enables better quality control,' explained Pettersen.
Dyrkorn and Fosnavåg Fiskevegn have worked closely together since 1996, when with MøreNot AS they set up a joint venture operation to produce swivelled longlines for the Norwegian and export markets.
The new look Dyrkorn is now 100% owned by MøreNot, Scandinavia's largest fishing gear manufacturer.
Equipment
Dyrkorn was established in 1913 and has manufactured ropes and fishing gear for over 85 years. Throughout its history the company's main activity has been the production and supply of longlining equipment for the Norwegian fleet and export markets.
