Freezer manufacturer Dybvad Stål Industri (DSI) says that despite slow sales to start with, demand for its automated V16 plate freezer has really taken off.

The company sold more than 50 V16’s with automatic loading and unloading in 2013.

DSI says that demand for the freezer is increasing because more ship builders and architects design new trawlers with room for the V16 and associated equipment. The shift from freon to natural refrigerants also plays a role, due to the V16’s use of ammonia.

Bjørn Giske, owner of M/S Atlantic Viking said, “The fully automated V16is the only of its kind in the market. With the new V16 onboard the operators in the factory have better working conditions, and on top of that we see a substantial increase in the production on a daily basis.”

DSI also reports that some fine-tuning had to be carried out onboard Greenland trawler Tuugaalik over the past few months. Tuugaalik was the first vessel to have the new horizontal HS 34 freezers installed, and with new complex production machinery, challenges are to be expected.

During the last visit some adjustments were made, and Tuugaalik has since reported “fantastic fishing” in the northwestern waters of Greenland.
