Manno''s Brothers (Fratelli Manno) has become the first Italian company to achieve Friend of the Sea certification for it deep-water rose shrimps, which are caught in the Tyrrhenian Sea (GSA 9).

Headquartered in Tuscany, Manno processes and deals wholesale fresh seafood for the national market.

Deep-water rose shrimps stocks targeted by Manno were found to be not overexploited and fishing gears met all Friend of the Sea criteria. Shrimps are not fished in protected areas, the discard rate is negligible, and waste management procedures are in place in order to reduce the environmental impact of the fishery.

The traceability system, including GPS and internet technology, ensures that there is no mixing between certified and not-certified products.

"We’re deeply engaged in protecting the marine ecosystem," said Maurizio Manno, president of F.lli Manno. "Being part of Friend of the Sea further recognises F.lli Manno’s efforts in this sense."
