Yamaha Motor (UK) has taken delivery of the first new commercially rated 285hp Yamaha inboard diesel stern drive units, – the ME432Sti P2 – bringing the total available inboard range up to five models and eight variants, including Twin Rotating Propeller (TRP) versions.

This new model is based on an existing Yamaha 24 valve diesel engine and coupled with the latest Yamaha TRP Hydra-Drive unit, and, according to the manufacturer, gives superb performance and fuel consumption, allowing commercial craft to travel at reasonable speeds whilst maintaining good range with economy.
User reports on the 315hp version indicate that at a 25-30 knot cruising speed it uses less fuel than the 245hp, so it is expected that the 285hp will give equally superb performance and range, making it ideal for offshore wind farm, fisheries, fast patrol, leisure charter and the many other markets.
An example was on static display at Seawork 2007 for the first time, with technical advisors on hand to explain the key differences on this Yamaha engine from existing models.
Pro Charter, the Cornwall based fishing boat builder, is taking the first commercial ME432Sti P2 unit to be installed in a 35 ft charter boat destined for Ireland.
The current range of Yamaha inboard models has received wide acceptance from such diverse builders as Sunseeker, including triple installations; Lyme Boats for the Vigilante 33 for offshore charter fishing and Redbay RIBs again with twin units.
