Coles has become the first major supermarket in Australia to introduce Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certified seafood in its delis.

Fresh ASC certified salmon and sustainably caught Queensland wild-caught prawns will be available across the country in Coles supermarkets.

“Not only is Coles providing Australians with certified sustainable seafood options, they have done an enormous amount of work through the supply chain to ensure its seafood is traceable from ocean all the way to the counter,” said MSC Asia Pacific director, Patrick Caleo.

He added: “As Aussies we love our seafood and want to safeguard our oceans for generations to come, choosing certified sustainable seafood from Coles is an easy and delicious way to contribute to the health of the ocean.”

Coles launched a campaign this month highlighting its range of Coles Brand responsibility sourced seafood to help its customers make better choices to protect the oceans, environments and local communities.

Charlotte Rhodes, general manager at Coles, is responsible for the campaign which aims to provide greater transparency and traceability to make it easier for customers to choose sustainable seafood.

She said: “With more customers looking for responsibly sourced seafood and keen to know where their food comes from, Coles is proud to ensure the Coles Brand seafood is responsibly sourced and introduce MSC and ASC certified products in its Delis.”
