Lubricant technology specialist Castrol Marine has developed a range of lubricants specifically to meet the demands of the fishing industry.

Originally marketed in North West Europe, the Castrol Seamax range of engine oils is now available in many of the key fishing regions of the world, and according to Castrol, is formulated to meet the demands that the engines in fishing vessels place on a lubricant.

Castrol Marine Fishing Sector Manager Richard Watson said: "Castrol has recognised that the supply of lubricants to the fishing industry poses unique problems but is nevertheless committed to continue to develop products and services to meet the diverse lubricant needs of the fishing communities around the world."

He said because fishing is undertaken in the most arduous weather conditions, this places the severest demands on engines and the oils that lubricate them.

Castrol has developed a range of premium engine oils under the Seamax brand name and are available, according to the company in an expanding number of countries through a network of distributors.

One of the new products, Seamax Extra (SAE 30 & 40), for example, exceeds API CF performance specification and provides protection against wear even under extreme operating conditions, according to Castrol.

The product also ensures class leading insurance when burning distillate fuels of variable quality.

Seamax Super Plus (SAE 15W/430) is first choice when a multigrade engine oil is specified and ideal for the lubrication of marinised truck engines.

Key benefits include superior soot dispersancy and high temperature cleanliness.

The Seamax Standard (SAE 30-40) is available for older normally aspirated engines that often operate under light load for significant periods.
