Biopremier SA has developed the Food DNA Analyzer, a Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) based method, in response to the needs of a more complex food supply chain.

The Food DNA Analyzer can answer exactly which species are in a product

The Food DNA Analyzer can answer exactly which species are in a product

This new technology can answer the question “what species are inside my food” and returns virtually an unlimited list of results for a very competitive price.

Every year 15 billion dollars are lost to fraud. Governments around the world are imposing more stringent regulatory frameworks, which demand new ways to test food. In the wake of the horsemeat scandal in 2013, molecular biology methods are becoming more relevant.

Seafood is even more complex and demands an untargeted method. The company says that using PCR (polymerase chain reaction) is an unpractical, expensive and less reliable method to test for every possible target in seafood. Biopremier claims that only an untargeted method such as the Food DNA Analyzer can ensure the comprehensive identification of a food’s composition.

With this method the user only needs one test to identify all fish content in the product and confirm all biological content.

The main advantages of the Food DNA Analyzer, besides the untargeted approach, is the virtually unlimited results, no false positives and being a very sensitive analysis even in highly processed products such as canned tuna and surimi.

Biopremier is an established molecular biology laboratory and is a forerunner in NGS analysis for food products and is now cooperating with SGS labs to provide these services worldwide.
