The company’s 65,000 sq ft processing plant in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, processes a range of seafood products, including Atlantic salmon, finfish and bivalve products, hand peeled shrimp meat and crabmeat.

Guy Dean, vice president, Albion Fisheries, told World Fishing and Aquaculture: "From Albion's perspective, having BAP certification further strengthens our commitment to our retail customer base on supplying traceable and food safe products that have been independently audited."

"This provides piece of mind for our key accounts that the product we offer meets the exacting criteria the consumer base is demanding. It also differentiates from other suppliers in the marketplace and allows us to remain a leader in the industry and set a precedence for the future," he added.

The Global Aquaculture Alliance told WF it hopes other distributors in Canada and throughout North America will follow suit.

Albion is also a secondary processor of Pacific salmon, halibut, sablefish and other species. The company's seafood products are sold primarily to retail and foodservice customers in British Columbia and Alberta.
