The deal enabling SalMar ASA to buy and merge with fellow salmon farming company Norway Royal Salmon ASA (NRS) was approved at an extraordinary general meeting of the former on 30 June 2022.

In a stock exchange announcement, SalMar advised that the EGM approved all items on the agenda, including the merger plan for the merger and the share capital increase in connection with the move.

The companies have overlapping interests in Norway, Iceland’s west fjords and also offshore. In terms of production, the merger creates the world’s second largest salmon farming company with a total harvest in the region of 280,000 tonnes.
