ASC slams tax on eco-labelled salmon

The Aquaculture Stewardship Council has warned that taxing ASC-certified salmon will have serious and unintended environmental consequences for Norway’s aquaculture industry
The Norm Price Council has introduced a special tax of NOK 1.50 (€0.13) per kg on the salmon, meaning ASC-certified farmers will face a burden not carried by other less stringent sustainability schemes.
ASC argues that the reputation of Norwegian salmon may be harmed, that investment in innovation will fall and sustainability goals across the world will suffer a setback.
