Isotherm, Inc. a Texas based manufacturer of RSW evaporators, condensers and systems supplied a custom designed Ammonia Spray Evaporator last year to Silver Bay Seafood, an Alaska based herring processor.
The design was based on a capacity of 2200kW with ammonia suction at -28°C and sodium chloride brine flow rate of 795m3/h with outlet temperature of -20°C. The total ammonia charge for the evaporator is less than 250kg.
Silver Bay Seafood has reported processing around 750-800 tons of herring a day, a considerable amount more than the averaged 450 tons processed in the previous year. The company says that it is “pleased beyond measure at the performance of our new chiller”.
