The latest completion by Macduff Shipyards Limited is the steel hulled trawler Amethyst BF19, built for Ralston Johnston and partners, Gardenstown, Scotland.

Arranged as a twin rig trawler the hull is a repeat of Daystar BF151, completed earlier this year.

The hull form is double chine, with a bulbous bow, and box type ballast keel.

The vessel will operate from Fraserburgh through Westward Fishing Company.

Macduff Profilers, a division of Macduff Shipyards Limited cut the steel kit from cutting information prepared by Macduff Ship Design Limited, and delivered the kit to Great Yarmouth where Richards Dry Dock and Engineering Limited fabricated the hull, which was then towed to Macduff for fitting out.

The steel deckhouse is fitted rail to rail athwartships and is weathertight. The rest of the deckshelter is non-weathertight and is constructed of steel aft of the deckhouse and aluminium alloy forward of the deckhouse.

The layout below deck from forward is forepeak c/w chain locker, fishroom, engineroom, and cabin with steering gear compartment.

On the main deck from forward the layout is winch room, fish handling area, deckhouse and net handling area.

The main engine is a Caterpillar 3412TC rated 503HP at 1800RPM with a Twin Disc MG5170DC gearbox with 6.95:1 reduction ratio, driving a 1900mm diameter 4 blade Lips propeller in a Lips nozzle.

A Mitsubishi 6D24TC auxiliary engine is arranged with a JBJ clutched splitter box to drive the deck machinery hydraulic pumps, and also a 46kw 415/3/50 alternator.

A Mitsubishi S65DT auxiliary is arranged to drive a 46kw 415/3/50 alternator.

All of the engines are arranged for keel cooling with Fernstrum gridcoolers supplied by Kort Propulsion Co Ltd.

The Caterpillar main engine was supplied by Finning UK Ltd, and the Mitsubishi engines by Macduff Diesels Limited.

The deck machinery package is as follows:

• 1 Macduff 3 drum trawl winch

• 2 Macduff split net drums

• 1 TMA Gilson winch

• 1 Thistle landing winch

• 1 Thistle 24” powerblock

• 1 Thistle BK7 kinked boom short post crane

• 1 curved towing bar and carriage

• 1 standby pump clutched off the Twin Disc gearbox
