Amble RNLI lifeboat The Four Boys was called to assist a locally based fishing vessel the Star Divine when she reported mechanical failure whilst out at sea on a routine trip.
Humber coastguard requested the launch of the Amble lifeboat after Star Divine reported that she had an overheating engine.
This was discovered to be due to a cooling water pump failure. At this time she was approximately 20 miles South East of her home port of Amble.
The volunteer crew members launched The Four Boys and immediately headed at best possible speed to the stricken vessel’s position.
However, whilst they were on route and six miles from the casualty, the lifeboat crew were informed that the fishermen had managed to temporarily rig the water pump to allow them to return to the nearest port, Blyth.
To ensure that safety cover was provided, Amble lifeboat then escorted the vessel towards Blyth, where upon another fishing vessel heading to Blyth took over the escort duties, allowing the lifeboat to return to station.
