AFMA’s environmental management system is being extended with a new project to improve management of ecological risks to ensure sustainable fishing practices.

The process results in a list of species or ‘issues’ that need to be addressed through fisheries management for each fishery, ranked in order of priority. The framework also allows for the identification of emerging or high risk issues needing immediate management attention.
