SeaFest Peterhead announces 2027 return

Peterhead’s award-winning seafood festival will return next summer, with more than 150 local businesses preparing for its biggest celebration yet.

SeaFest Peterhead will take place on 11 September from 11am to 4pm at Peterhead Harbour. The free-to-attend event, which has welcomed around 30,000 visitors since launching in 2023, will celebrate the people, businesses and communities behind the north-east’s vital seafood industry.

“SeaFest Peterhead is an excellent opportunity for all ages to explore and learn more about the seafood industry here in the north-east,” said new chairman Michael Bates.

“Our festival has always supported local businesses, and it allows those in our community to meet the individuals who fish along their shores and help put seafood on their plates.”

The former seafood industry veteran, who worked in the sector for more than 40 years, takes over from Jimmy Buchan MBE, who steps down as chairman but remains on the committee. Laura McKay becomes vice chair, while Simone Fitzsimmons takes up the role of secretary.

The 2027 festival will stretch from Birnie’s Pier to the jetty at Peterhead Port Authority, with entertainment, activities, food experiences and demonstrations planned throughout the day.

A producers’ market featuring more than 100 food, drink and craft businesses will sit alongside street food vendors, fishing vessels, emergency services and harbour activities. Visitors will also have opportunities to sample and buy local produce while discovering more about the region’s fishing heritage.

Bates said the festival offered both education and entertainment, adding: “It’s free to attend, and there are plenty of free things for all ages to get stuck into, too, meaning it’s accessible to everyone.”

Peterhead Port Authority chief executive Graeme Reid said SeaFest 2025 had ‘exceeded expectations’ and demonstrated strong demand for an event celebrating the fishing and seafood industries.

He added that the authority was proud to support the 2027 festival and looked forward to welcoming thousands of visitors.
