JT Electric’s new underwater HD digital camera is an effective tool in reducing the capture of prohibited species in harsh environments, the Faroe Islands-based manufacturer has said.

The Trawl Camera is an autonomous deep water video recording system that has been specifically designed to provide a compact and robust unit for capturing underwater video data.

According to JT Electric, the camera is designed for and in conjunction with fishing trawler owners operating in the harsh environment in the North Atlantic Ocean near Faroe Islands and Iceland, and the Arctic Sea near Greenland.

“Trawl Camera is a cost-effective tool which helps vessels by improving their current equipment’s fishing capabilities and reducing by-catch issues by identifying the fish, therefore reducing discards and optimising sustainable fishing,” the company said.

The camera records in 30-60 fps with 480-1.080p and has a recording angle of up to 170 degrees as well as a 90 degrees adjustable turning angle.

Its docking station includes software for viewing, editing and storing recordings. It has external storage of up to 4TB.
