WESMAR, Western Marine Electronics, has recently released a technical report on the unique advantages of the level indicator feature on the WESMAR line of trawl sonars. The level indicator feature allows the sonar operator to monitor the trawl net from the sonar screen, watching the angle of the trawl sled as it flies through the water attached to the net.
In the technical paper, titled ‘Fishing with the Level Indicator’, details are given about the design and what the level indicator will display. The paper is in an easy-to-read and understand format and covers the level indicator feature for WESMAR’s complete trawl sonar line including the TCS780, 380, 770, 345 and 335.
WESMAR trawl sonars are equipped with a number of sensors, depth and temperature, current speed and direction sensors that detect the direction and flow of the current at the head rope, sending critical information so the operators can adjust the net for optimum fishing.
The level indicator feature is critical. It shows the importance of having the information about the orientation of the trawl net and its importance to a successful trawling operation. The report includes illustrations of the level indicator on the sonar screen and information about the installation and how to make proper correction.
