New integrated pair trawl system goes towards more efficient fishing - Scantrol has developed a new system for pair trawlers which simplifies the fishery a lot. Earlier the fishermen needed to update each others manually over the radio. This was time consuming, difficult to do and brought along a lot of sources for error. This process is now done automatically with the new Scantrol Integrated PairTrawlSystem (IPS), and fishery are now much more efficient then before.

Scantrol got long traditions in delivering control systems for hydraulic winches, something which is confirmed by over 180 systems operating today. The new Integrated PairTrawlSystem is a further development of the already well working Scantrol Symmetry Control, which is a full autotrawl system, and is developed to make the pair trawling process completely automatic.

It started in Sweden

This is a product developed on the already existing Scantrol Autotrawl system, and was first delivered to the two Swedish trawlers 'Løvøn' and 'Carmona'. When you are pairtrawling there are a lot of things for the skippers to keep their mind on. You will need to keep track of wire-length, wire-tension, course, speed, bearing and so on. This is something both vessels need to do, and then they will have to update each other over radio, to synchronize the boats and the winches. This takes a lot of the crews time and attention, because small errors will give you a less optimal tow. Without Scantrol Autotrawl System and with many sources for error, it is difficult to get a good tow.

How does it work

Scantrol has developed a system on their all ready existing Auto trawl system, which eliminate most sources for error. By collecting all data needed for an optimal tow, and presenting them on the Scantrol display, while the data at all time are sent between the vessels to share them, both vessels will easily be able to find their best settings. This will also give pair trawlers the option to control all winches from one of the vessels, making the other one a 'slave'. Of course giving both vessels the opportunity to overdrive the system at all time, if the situation requires it.

Full auto trawl

At the same time Scantrol Autotrawl will work as it usually does, which means that most of the variables on both vessels will be adjusted automatically.

This will free a lot of time for the crew as well as it gives you a more optimal and efficient tow.

The system was first delivered in the year 2000 to the vessels 'Løvøn' and 'Carmona', two pair trawlers on 37 meters from Sweden, and was delivered together with Scanmar symmetry sensors and Lidan Marine AB winches.
