Pescanova USA’s CEO Domingo Moreira has joined the board of directors of the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA).
A graduate of Harvard Business School, Moreira has spent 14 years in the seafood sector. He joined the Pescanova Group with its acquisition of Ladex LLC in 2007. Moreira was the chairman of Ladex, a leading aquaculture company in Central America active in seafood trading in the US and Europe.
Pescanova is a multi-faceted, vertically integrated company based in Spain that has international interests in fishing, aquaculture and frozen foods.
“It is a tremendous privilege and asset to have Pescanova become a governing member of GAA because Pescanova is recognised as a top global producer and market leader in seafood in the European Union, the Americas and worldwide,” said GAA president George Chamberlain.
Moreira takes over on the GAA board from Antonio Pino, who served since 2008. Pino was the general manager of Promarisco, SA, a shrimp supplier in Ecuador acquired by Pescanova in 2008.
GAA has developed certification standards for shrimp hatcheries and farms, tilapia farms, channel catfish farms, processing facilities and feed mills.
Known as Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP), these standards cover food safety, traceability, animal welfare, community and social welfare, and environmental sustainability.
