Late last year Vónin supplied monkfish trawls to an undisclosed foreign fishing company.
Vónin reports that the response from the company has been very positive - they are happy with the trawls and the trawls are performing well.
These types of trawls have been used by Faroese inshore trawlers for several years with great results. The inshore trawlers previously used regular flat fish trawls when fishing for monkfish, but when changing to the Vónin monkfish trawl the catch increased significantly.
The inshore trawlers are single trawling with these trawls, but these clients have been pair-trawling with the Vónin monkfish trawls. They have even been pair-trawling with two trawls.
The trawls delivered have a fishing line of 156m and the vertical opening of the trawls is around 2m - making them perfect for monkfish fishing. The monkfish trawl has an extra long footrope, low height and very long wing ends. It is designed to have a long spread between the wing tips and to maximise spread and is especially effective on smooth grounds.
This trawl can be used with ultra-short bridles to bring the doors right into the wing ends, which boosts the trawl’s horizontal opening even further.
The trawls can be delivered with especially designed spider web chains for greater fishing.
The netting used for the monkfish trawls is PET, Euroline, Premium, Premium Plus and Euroneema (Dyneema).
