Ocean Trawlers says it is taking necessary steps to assume a firm position in the Antarctic krill fishery.

Ocean Trawlers CEO Gunnar Mansfeld reports that "our decision to join forces with the Murmansk Trawl Fleet (MTF) in a long term supply arrangement should be sufficient evidence that Ocean Trawlers intends to be a serious and long term player in the krill industry. MTF brings important experience in krill harvesting to our joint efforts and shares our sustainable approach, including finding cutting edge technology in order to realise the full potential of this vital marine asset."

Together with its partners, Ocean Trawlers has rebuilt a Monzund type trawler into a state of the art krill meal and oil plant for onboard processing.

Mr Mansfeld added, "The exciting thing about the future of the krill business is not only the existing customer base for meal and oil but the possibilities for krill products in nutraceutical and pharmaceutical markets. With meal and oil, we are only scratching the surface of what krill can mean to help mankind."

Ocean Trawlers says that it is committed to further exploring and developing the opportunities that krill brings to its already solid fishing base and processing technology, in close long-term cooperation with its business partners.
