At this year’s Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition ALVAR will be showcasing the latest version of its disinfection delivery system designed to leave processing areas bacteria-free.

ALVAR’s systems generate a thick fog of disinfectant mist that penetrates to every corner of a processing plant and this is programmable to activate automatically when a shift has ended and the processing areas is unmanned. The company’s systems for food processing at sea and ashore are in widespread use in the Icelandic and Norwegian seafood sectors – and the company is now seeking to widen its customer base, while also introducing new delivery methods.

ALVAR has now developed a new version of the system, ALVAR Mist Focus, designed specifically for smaller, enclosed spaces, making it possible for these to be mounted inside processing machinery, and will be demonstrating this for the first time at IceFish this year.

“Equipment is becoming more complex and with these larger and increasingly sophisticated systems in widespread use, we have been aware of concerns about disinfecting these effectively,” Daniel Fontané said.

“To meet these requirements, we have adapted the ALVAR technology into spray clusters that can be fitted inside machines, ensuring that every corner of these complex, enclosed areas are disinfected as effectively as the rest of the processing area.”

He commented that there is no doubt about the effectiveness of the ALVAR system, which is used by major seafood producers across the North Atlantic region, including Samherji and Royal Greenland.

“We’ll be demonstrating this system at IceFish this year, and we see this exhibition as an ideal platform to draw attention to what we are able to do. It’s not something that’s easily shown in a picture, as you can’t take a picture of fog. But with a cabinet that we can fill, we can let people feel the mist.”
