Duguva has a varied production range, including electric fencing for livestock and specialised surgical bands – but its main growth in recent years has been in producing ropes and twine for the fishing and aquaculture sectors.

“In the last five years we have been growing steadily in fisheries and aquaculture,” said Modestas Bernackas, whose father established the company 21 years ago.

Today Duguva’s 5000 square metre factory produces a variety of HMPE and Dyneema ropes, all the way up to a 30mm rope with a 78-tonne breaking strength.

“We have a very diverse production, so when one sector is slow, another picks up,” he said, commenting that their fishing and aquaculture production has been accounting for an increasing share of output.

Most of our rope production goes to customers in Europe; Denmark, Finland, Norway, Poland and the Netherland, plus we have a few UK customers. We also export to Russia,” he said.

’So far we don’t have any customers in Iceland – but we want to change that and we for us IceFish is an opportunity to get to know the market in Iceland better and to make contacts with new customers there.”
