Gadus has a longstanding reputation for the highest quality seafood production. Always quick to adapt and determined to be a leader in its field, Gadus has responded to the demands of a changing market by embarking on a transformation process and articulating a long-term company vision.
As part of the process, Gadus examined its value chain and built a solid relationship with some international food retailers.
By installing a new Valka portioning system, Gadus will further strengthen those bonds with retailers by being able to offer the products that consumers are asking for.
“We are pleased with this contract with Valka and very excited to make the most of the solution Valka is delivering,” said Gadus CEO Philip Duyck.
“This plays a key role in our transformation plans and our ability to secure long-term contracts with our retail partners. Also, it is great to see that the teams have been working together in a very efficient way despite the Covid-19 situation. A big thank you to the Valka team for their great collaboration and effort.”
Valka is supplying Gadus with a system capable of portioning salmon and whitefish fillets. With this robot-controlled portioning system in place, the company will be able to make even fuller use of each fillet, enabling it to offer novel product types that would be difficult or impossible to produce otherwise. The new system can cut any angled or curved pattern, optimising the use of each fish.
While older systems could only cut parallel lines, the system can simultaneously carry out the formerly labour-intensive task of cutting small, cubed poke portions from the belly and tail parts, in addition to cutting several fixed-weight retail portions from a salmon fillet,
A regular participant in the Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition, Valka will be back in September to demonstrate what its systems can achieve.
“IceFish has always been an important exhibition for us,” said Valka’s marketing manager Ágúst Sigurðarson
“It has always been a good event with opportunities to meet both existing and potential customers. We like to make the most of IceFish by doing something special for our customers who visit the exhibition, and it’s when we can meet away from the pressures of the usual work environment when everyone’s busy. So this is an opportunity to forge closer links with our customers.”
