The National Federation of Fishermen’s Organisations has elected Mike Cohen as its next chairman following a unanimous decision.

Mr Cohen is currently the CEO of east coast shellfish group, Holderness Fishing Industry Group. He will take over as chairman from Tony Delahunty after the Federation’s AGM next summer.

“I am delighted that I will be succeeded next summer by someone of Mike’s calibre. His calm analytical approach will stand us in good stead and he will have a strong team behind him,” said Mr Delahunty, following the election at a recent NFFO executive meeting.

“I am very grateful for the confidence that the Federation’s leadership has shown in me. I will do my very best to ensure that the industry’s voice is heard here, because it matters,” added Mr Cohen.

The chairman elect concluded: “What strikes me the most about the NFFO, over the time that I have been involved, is the breadth and diversity of the membership. We are all united by the conviction that we will fare better if we pull together.”
