A new generation of containers has been launched which allows live lobsters to be transported in their original water in conditions that maintain their natural habitat.

Launched by the CMA CGM Group, the development of AQUAVIVA utilises the company’s reefer specialist expertise, along with the unique technology INNOPURE®, developed by EMYG Environnement & Aquaculture.
Previously lobsters were carried either frozen by sea or alive and on ice by airfreight, but with the new AQUAVIVA container, they can now travel by sea in conditions similar to their natural habitat.
The company says that the new containers guarantee the water’s optimum temperature during transportation and also preserve the water’s oxygen level and quality, thanks to INNOPURE® and its natural filtration system.
Lobsters are carried in their natural water during the whole transport process, from the fishing area until arrival at wholesalers or restaurants.
The AQUAVIVA container is the result of four years of research and development between CMA CGM Reefer teams, a worldwide shipping group, and EMYG Environnement & Aquaculture, a company specialised in water purification and filtration.
Initial markets for the AQUAVIVA container will be North America and Europe. The collaboration will continue and will allow maritime transportation for other live seafood in the future.
