At 90.5m long and 17.8m wide, this will be the largest pelagic fishing vessel in its segment.
The SALT 0155 design vessel has been developed in a close cooperation between the ship owner, Kleven and design company Salt Ship Design.
“We are really pleased that Henning Kjeldsen chooses to build this large, modern and advanced fishing vessel in Norway and at Myklebust Verft,” said Ståle Rasmussen, CEO of Kleven.
He also praised the cooperation between the three parties in the process leading up to the contract being signed.
“Myklebust Verft is celebrating 100 years of operation this year, and the yard is very experienced and skilled when it comes to building fishing vessels. This is the fourth fish related newbuild contract we have signed at Myklebust since June. In Kleven we are building vessels for a number of different segments, which is clearly an advantage in today’s challenging situation in the oil industry”, Mr Rasmussen said.
The vessel is to be delivered from Myklebust Verft in Q4 2017.
A number of Norwegian suppliers are also involved in the project, including Brunvoll, Scana Volda, Hareid Elektriske, Karmøy Winch and MMC.
Kleven’s orderbook now holds 16 vessels, at a total value of more than NOK 10bn.
