The Australian Fisheries Management Authority will end its prior reporting program across all of its fisheries from 1 September 2009.
As a result of increased capabilities of the Vessel Monitoring System, the requirement for fishers to routinely report details of their fishing trip over the phone prior to leaving/entering port will be abolished.
This progression towards enhanced monitoring capabilities will assist AFMA to make better informed decisions by supporting operational activities and will also save fishers time and money.
Special care should be taken by operators that may need to continue to prior report as a result of state fishery obligations, as this does not override or discontinue those arrangements.
