An Ecuadorian company operating in the ultra-frozen fish market worldwide, Transmarina C.A., has positively concluded a Friend of the Sea (FoS) audit for its tuna, mahi mahi, wahoo, opah and swordfish.

The onsite FoS audit has provided confirmation of sustainability and a proper chain of custody. Following the auditor's recommendations, the company has also drafted appropriate principles and criteria to further regulate its activity.

Transmarina's purse seine and longline vessels operate in the Eastern Central Pacific Ocean (FAO area 87). The company’s sustainable fishing policy includes a set of measures to reduce bycatch, to release accidentally caught vulnerable species such as turtles and sharks, and to avoid marine bird bycatch.

“The Friend of the Sea audit has represented a very important and positive experience for Transmarine”, said Giansandro Perotti, Executive President of Transmarina C.A. “Friend of the Sea certification provides an important recognition of our conservation efforts and lower impact fishing method.”
