ChartCo, leading supplier of marine information by satellite, has launched a private network service at CITIS. This new service is fully operational and is specifically aimed to meet the requirements of companies who already have, or who are considering, putting in place a leased data link.
The new service uses a high-speed communications link through which a vessel may have permanent communication access for simultaneous voice, dta, internet and facsimile transmissions. ChartCo is able to make use of this link by configuring the system to access all services subscribed to, at the ChartCo data centre.
The system will dial ChartCo's data centre direct and download all relevant information.
The softwear installed on board the vessel initiates the call at predetermined times without user interventation, transferring the data into the ChartCo software for viewing and printing. Steve Mariner, operations manager at ChartCo, said: "The new service has successfully completed exhaustive field trials and will enable customers who already pay data link to reap the benefits of the ChartCo system with out investment in further hardwear.
