A significant number of the 300 or so participants at October’s meeting in Morocco of the International Association of Fish Inspectors (IAFI.net) were hit by severe food poisoning leading to vomiting and diarrhoea.
The source of the infection appeared to be a buffet at the venue where the World Seafood Congress was held, the deluxe Royal Atlas Hotel in Agadir.
The hotel management confirmed, during a phone call by World Fishing, that it was aware of the food poisoning reports, but made no further comment. A few days before, a group of participants had eaten, without incident, fresh fished cooked in front of them at a café in Agadir’s souk (market).
