Ukrainian company AFC Prydunays''ka Niva has obtained the Friend of the Sea certification for Antarctic krill.
The company’s vessel More Sodruzhestva is a factory trawler, operating in the Antarctic section of the Atlantic Ocean. The captured krill are processed on board immediately after fishing, thanks to the specialised krill harvesting and production equipment.
“Achieving the Friend of the Sea is a big step forward for our company,” said Vyacheslav Gettun, captain of the More Sodruzhestva.
“We are very proud to receive a further confirmation of our commitment to sustainability,” he added.
AFC has successfully complied with strict krill sustainability criteria which ensure that the stock is not overfished, the fishery is in compliance with the management measures and there is no bycatch of endangered species.
