The shortlists for the 2019 Aquaculture Awards, held on 29 May at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh, have been announced.

Highlighting the best of companies and individuals in the sector, the awards span eight categories from research and innovation through to sustainability and animal welfare.
Event organiser, Susan Tinch, said that the diverse panel of judges had an interesting day deciding the shortlist. “We look forward to announcing the winners on 29 May,” she said. “We’d like to thank both the judges and all those who entered these hotly-contested awards.”
Aqua BioTech Group, Nutrition Research Group, BioMar/Mowi/Scottish Sea Farms/University of Stirling and SAIC, and Troutlodge are shortlisted for the applied research breakthrough category whilst Bioretur, Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta, Ictyogroup and Veramaris are contesting the sustainability category.
International impact is contested by Hatch, Nutrition Research Group, Prarie Aquatech and Veramaris, whilst the people’s choice will be selected from Gorkha Ahedo, Caitriona Carter, Richard Derbyshire, Yilin Li and Nathan Pyne-Carter.
Underwater Contracting Limited, Kendal Hunter and Clara McGhee of Mowi Scotland and Manolin will compete to be awarded most promising new entrant whilst Ace Aquatech, Europharma and Seneye are up for the animal welfare award.
Technical innovation will be contested by Benchmark Animal Health, Pentair, Underwater Contracting Limited and XpertSea whilst the diversity category sees Open Blue Sea Farms go head to head with Scottish Sea Farms.
