This Hybrid Multipurpose Aquaculture Vessel (MPAV) is in the design process with Australian naval architect Oceantech, which is currently working on optimising all areas of the vessel’s performance and operational ability. This vessel is expected to be launched in early 2024.

The boat will be built at the Nichols Brothers Boat Builders (NBBB) which is currently constructing the first boat for Pacific Mariculture. With a length of 23.95 metres and a beam of 7.50 metres, the vessel will have the capability to carry 50 tonnes of product. Accommodation and crew facilities have been increased to allow for multi-day operations. The work deck will also feature a New Zealand designed and built deck equipment.

When charged with renewable energy the carbon footprint will be reduced by over 50% when compared to a similar conventional vessel.

When required, the vessel’s internal combustion power is supplied by a Caterpillar C18 ACERT producing 599kW @ 2100rpm. The drive line is conventional shaft with ZF reduction gearbox and fixed pitch propeller.
