Three leading UK fish and chip shops are in line for a top national award for their services to staff training and development.

The Real Food Café in Tyndrum, Harbour Lights in Falmouth and Royal Fisheries in Whitby have been shortlisted for the Staff Training and Development Award at the national Fish & Chip Shop of the Year competition, organised by Seafish, the UK authority on seafood.

Owners Sarah Heward, Peter Fraser and Carol Fusco and their teams will now be judged to decide the overall winner which will be announced by celebrity chef, Aldo Zilli, at a London ceremony on 21 January.

Competition judges have already been impressed by the three shops’ commitment to staff training needs after they successfully negotiated two rounds of judging.

Richard Wardell, the Seafish Training and Accreditation Adviser who oversees the judging of the Staff Training and Development Award, said: “Each of this year’s finalists has shown that when a business invests in its people through education and training, a long and gratifying career can be enjoyed in the fish and chip industry.”
