Thailand based seafood company, Narong Seafood Company Ltd, has agreed to pay US$10,000 to resolve unlicensed software allegations made by the Attorney General’s office of Massachusetts.
Attorney General Martha Coakley alleged the company’s use of unlicensed software presented the fish processing business with an unfair advantage over its competitors in Massachusetts. The Attorney General’s office claimed that Narong’s use of the software allowed the company to unfairly sell and deliver products into the state without paying the required licensing fees.
The company’s website statement said: “Narong Seafood has completed an internal audit of our IT systems to ensure that our systems are secured, that we adhere to the intellectual property laws of Thailand and abroad and to ensure that our people have the best and most productive software and IT tools to do their jobs.”
Martha Coakley, Attorney General, said: “Businesses using unlicensed software should not gain an unfair cost advantage over rivals who play by the rules. We are committed to ensuring that companies doing business in Massachusetts compete on a level playing field.”
Narong Seafood has agreed not to illegally use unlicensed copyrighted software and will pay a fine of US$10,000 to Massachusetts.
