“We’re concentrating on green systems, and we have developed an electric fishing vessel. This is a coastal longliner. Construction hasn’t started, but the development work is compete and this is ready to go,” said Bjarni Hjartarson at Navis.

“We are also doing a lot of green-oriented development work with hydrogen and other fuel sources.”

Over the years Navis has been involved in a great many projects, from newbuilds to refits and rebuilds of vessels from 10 metres all the way up to 120 metre ships, dealing with everything from fishing vessels to service craft and container ships.

“Our most recent new fishing vessel is Páll Jónsson GK-7, which was designed for Vísir in Grindavík and delivered by the Alkor Shipyard in Poland in February last year.”

The 45 metre Páll Jónsson replaced an older vessel of the same name, providing the company with a significantly more efficient longliner which presented opportunities to provide the crew with better living conditions and a modern working deck layout.

This year Navis is back at the Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition as an exhibitor.

“We see IceFish as a unique event. This is exhibition is where we get to find out what’s going on in the industry, and where we have opportunities to meet new clients and make new connections,” he said.
