Baader will be promoting its whole fish processing line at Icefish, but, like at the previous show, the company will not have any equipment on its stand. Managing director, Einar Benjamínsson and general director, Jochum Ulriksson explain:
“Showing the machines processing fish at the show is very difficult as the machines need to be cleaned regularly and this is not something that can be done easily in an exhibition hall. Therefore, we will be bringing interested customers to our workshop, where we will demonstrate the machines to them.”
On the stand, customers will be able to see videos of the whole product line in action and Baader staff will be on-hand to discuss the machines further.
Special focus will be on the Whitefish Skinning Machine – the Baader 59. A prototype of the machine was shown at the European Seafood Exposition in Brussels earlier this year, but the sale of the machine will be launched at Icefish 2008.
The 59 is designed for processing soft fish such as haddock.
Benefits of the machine include:
• High quality of the fillet – smooth as a mirror
• Less downgrade
• Fillet output straight and separate for inspection
• Easier trimming
• User friendly to maintain and clean
Another new product from Baader is the 580 Whitefish Filleting Machine. The machine was recently finalised and, again, sale will be launched at Icefish 2008.
One of the new 580 machines has already been sold to Hafgæði, mostly for filleting haddock.
On the fishing industry in general, Mr Ulriksson is optimistic: “Fish prices are high in Iceland – although decreased quota means less catch and less value, companies are earning good money for the fish they do catch,” he says.
“Despite the bad reports, the fish industry in Iceland is in good shape - there is plenty of fish and Icelanders are now buying into international companies,” he concludes.
