Frozen food company, Nomad Foods, is to begin supplying Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certified farmed fish from three of the largest ASC-certified suppliers in the world.

Pangasius from Vinh Hoan, VDTG and Godaco Seafood will be available to Nomad Foods customers from 2023, marking a milestone in the company’s aim to supply only produce from sustainable sources by 2025.

“Working with the MSC [Marine Stewardship Council] for over 25 years, we have led the way in protecting wild fish stocks for future generations,” explained Stéfan Descheemaeker, chief executive at Nomad Foods.

“We now plan to apply this knowledge to drive higher standards across the aquaculture supply chain, as we grow our existing partnership with the ASC and increase the range of fish species we use for our products.”

Chris Ninnes, chief executive at ASC, said Nomad Foods was increasing its commitment to support sustainable aquaculture practices. “This is an important sign that environmentally sustainable and socially responsible production are key requirements for the aquaculture industry. We look forward to working more closely in the future,” he said.

Nomad is also involved in a number of partnerships to develop emerging technologies, such as lab-grown fish and other proteins.
