The first-ever smoked salmon from a land-based facility is coming soon to Norwegian shops.
Available from 17 February in Meny and Spar, the Lofoten-branded smoked salmon has been produced using innovative technology at Salmon Evolution’s land-based sites.

“Our shared goal is to increase seafood consumption and offer consumers more choice on the shelf by introducing land-based salmon alongside conventional options,” explained Øystein Rist, chief commercial operator of Lofotprodukt.
“Lofoten is always on the lookout for innovative solutions. We support new methods of seafood production and are excited to explore the opportunities that land-based aquaculture can create for the future.”
The land-based production process is defined by a closed and controlled environment with continuous optimisation of water quality resulting in salmon with a reportedly vibrant colour and flavour.
The product has been listed by NorgesGruppen, supporting the company’s goal of increasing access to healthy and high-quality seafood for Norwegian consumers.
“NorgesGruppen is committed to making fish and seafood accessible to everyone through a diverse selection,” said Camilla Moe, category manager for Fresh Fish and Seafood at NorgesGruppen.
“We aim to gain deeper insights into different consumer needs and hope that this product will create lasting value over time.”
