Total seafood exports for August ended at NOK3.5bn, decreasing by NOK120m compared with August last year.

Up to and including August 2011, exports of Norwegian seafood were worth NOK32.8m. According to figures from the Norwegian Seafood Export Council (NSEC), this is an increase of NOK1.4bn on the same period in 2010.
In August, the total value of salmon exports was NOK2.1bn. This represents a decrease of NOK312m, or 13%, compared with August last year. So far this year, sales have been worth NOK19.3bn, representing an increase of NOK389m on 2010. France is still the most important market for salmon, with sales worth NOK315m in August. Russia is the next largest market, importing for NOK225m.
Growth seen in the cod export sector is mainly due to frozen cod and haddock. Taking frozen cod and haddock as one, the increase of NOK133m takes it to a total of NOK358m in August. This volume increase makes a positive contribution as prices have fallen slightly. Fresh fish sales fell by NOK13m to a total of NOK140m in August. Reduced volumes of fresh fish sold are responsible for the reduction.
Exports of clipfish increased by NOK45m in August. The increase in prices and volumes for cod clipfish amounts for most of the increase. The value of salted fish exports fell by NOK8m in August; a reduction that is due to falling sales volumes. Salted fish prices increased in August.
The value of Norwegian Fjord Trout exports increased in August by NOK4m to NOK115m. So far this year, Fjord Trout exports have reached NOK851m, which is a fall in value of NOK72m. Russia was the most important market for Norwegian Fjord Trout in August, with sales of NOK61m.
