Designed by Skipskompetanse, part of the Måløy Maritime Group cluster, the new live fish carrier will occupy yard no. 71 at Larsnes Mek Verksted AS and will be the sister vessel to yard no. 67’s Ro Sailor that was delivered to Rostein in July last year.

The 79.3-metre by 15-metre newbuild will be the 10th vessel in a series of live fish carriers – all based on the Ro Arctic innovation project. The design has a slimmer hull, which is optimised for transporting salmon, and offers a loading capacity of 2,800 cubic metres.

The wells are arranged for the open and closed transport of salmon and smolt.

“With this vessel, Rostein is approaching NOK 3.5 billion in new constructions at Larsnes Mek, and this is a statement on how important the aquaculture industry is for the maritime sector,” said Jarle Gunnarstein at Larsnes Mek Verksted AS.

To take the design and experience from Ro Sailor a step further, the new vessel will be equipped with IMO Tier III- machinery and arranged to give fish and crew calm and comfortable journies.

Also, by optimising the hull, lines and machinery for operations, an energy-efficient vessel with reduced emissions is created.

During closed transport, the new vessel’s emissions will be zero.

On completion, it will include equipment for monitoring, water circulation purification, UV-treating water in and out of the cargo hold, an automatic cleaning and disinfection system, as well as monitors that regulate and log water parameters.

The hull will be built in Gdansk by Marine Projects and is scheduled for delivery in May 2023.
