The Sea Fish Industry Authority (Seafish) and Seafood Scotland are developing a series of good practice guides to aid workers on fishing vessels and in onshore seafood businesses to comply with food hygiene requirements.
World Fishing has not yet gone through them, but the publishers say they will cover EU legislation, product handling, hygiene and the application of hazard analysis and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP).
They will include nephrops (prawns), whitefish, pelagic fish, live crustacea and bivalve molluscs and they have talked to representatives from these sectors while writing up the guides. Seafish will also be producing shorter guides for use onboard fishing vessels. The draft guides for whitefish, pelagic fish and nephrops are already downloadable at (www.seafish.org/sea/standards.asp).
