Piriou has received an order for the construction of a 22m Danish seine trawler from the Armement Cooperatif Artisanal Vendeen (ACAV). The vessel will be delivered in early 2013.
The company says that it’s the first Danish seine trawler conceived and built in France.
The new contract marks a return for Piriou to the traditional fishing sector – its ambition is to participate as much as possible in the renewal of the French fishing vessel fleet.
This contract is the result of a close collaboration between ACAV, MAURIC - the naval architect’s office in charge of the project and Chantiers Piriou as shipbuilder.
It’s an interesting vessel because Piriou says that up till now, the only vessels practising this fishing technique used to be classical but slightly transformed stern trawlers. So for the first time, Piriou is building a vessel specifically designed for this type of fishing. On the one hand, this technique reduces fuel consumption compared to a traditional trawler and on the other hand it leads to better quality of fish.

Since 1988, PIRIOU has built nine vessels ranging from 18m to 22m in length for ACAV.
