Alessandro Lovatelli has been confirmed as the Offshore Mariculture Conference 2014 chairman

A marine biologist and aquaculturist, Mr Lovatelli first got involved with the aquaculture industry back in 1985 when he was recruited by an Italian company as a clam hatchery biologist. More recently Mr Lovatelli has headed numerous assignments in Mexico, Vietnam and Somalia and currently his main activities are focused on marine/offshore aquaculture development, transfer of farming technologies and resources management.

The 5th Offshore Mariculture Conference will explore the progress and prospects for offshore aquaculture in both European and international waters and includes a technical visit to a fish farm, allowing delegates a comprehensive insight into how offshore fish farms are operating today. The Piscicoltura Del Golfo Di Gaeta (P2G) fish farm is located within the Gulf of Gaeta and consists of 72 floating cages which generate an annual output of approximately 1,980 tons, including a guaranteed 165 tons of sea bass and sea bream per month.

The soon to be released programme will include sessions on:

  • International regulatory developments
  • Investment and finance – new for 2014!
  • Stock management
  • Innovative technologies

The conference will be held in Naples, Italy, from 9-11 April 2014 and expects to attract both European and international fish farmers as well as suppliers looking to learn more and network with the Italian and European market.
